Your cabin air filter plays an important part in the health of your engine as it keeps contaminants from the outside air from entering the engine and causing clogs. Eventually, the filters will become too dirty and restrict airflow to the engine which is why you should replace your air filter every 15,000 to 30,000 miles or if it is dirty upon inspection. Another way to tell if your filter needs to be replaced is if your getting reduced airflow from the AC vents within the cabin.
For starters, you want to look in your vehicle’s manual for how to remove the glovebox as the cabin air filter is usually located either inside or behind it. Once you have figured out how to access your vehicle’s filter and have acquired the proper tools for the job, you may want to grab gloves, a mask, and goggles to avoid breathing or touching the dirt, debris, or contaminants that it has collected.
The next step is to follow the instructions you found within your manual to reach the filter. Use the tools if any were required to open the filter housing. Once you have access to the filter it is time to remove it and throw it away. If you decided on using safety equipment this is the time to suit up. Once you have the filter removed simply take the new filter and put it into the housing. Now reinstall the glove box and you are finished!
